A S M Monjurul Hasan is a researcher and engineer specialising in industrial decarbonisation, with a particular focus on supporting the transition towards sustainable and net-zero manufacturing systems. He is currently a Lecturer in the School of Electrical, Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney.

Combining professional experience in both industry and academia across Australia and internationally, Dr Hasan has developed expertise in industrial decarbonisation, with particular emphasis on industrial energy efficiency, low-carbon fuels, circular economy strategies, and the integration of digital manufacturing systems. His research adopts a systems engineering perspective to investigate how decarbonisation technologies and sustainable engineering practices can be integrated into industrial operations to improve productivity, resource efficiency, and environmental performance. With a strong application-oriented focus, his work develops practical frameworks, decision-support approaches, and evidence-based strategies that enable industries to evaluate, adopt, and implement decarbonisation initiatives. By bridging engineering research with industrial practice, his research supports informed operational and strategic decision-making while accelerating the transition towards resilient, sustainable, and net-zero manufacturing systems.

Dr Hasan has published extensively in leading international journals in the fields of industrial energy, sustainable manufacturing, and operations management. He regularly serves as a reviewer for high-impact journals, including Applied Energy, Journal of Cleaner Production, Energy, Energy Policy, Renewable Energy, and Sustainability, and has served as a Guest Editor for Frontiers in Energy Research. He has contributed to several Australian Federal Government-funded research projects and actively collaborates with leading universities, industry partners, and research organisations across Australia, the United States, Europe, and Asia.
