Ailsa Weaver (she/her) lectures on unceded Gadigal at UTS and lives on Wurundjeri Woi Warung country in Naarm Melbourne. Her established portmanteau career as a visual communicator and educator spans three decades of interdisciplinary and collaborative professional practice, incorporating moving image, graphic design, the teaching of visual cultures and design theory, tertiary and seconday curriculum design and programming, governmental arts policy development, and independent curatorial practice. Her teaching centres on the trans-disciplinary application of critical and creative design research, emphasising access, diversity and equity, Ailsa has taught into the UTS Bachelor of Design in Fashion and Textiles (Hons) program primarily as a thesis supervisor and assessor, and as a course covenor of core theory content, since 2015, additionally contributing to the Design Studies stream of the Bachelor of Design degree as a tutor and guest lecturer.

 
Ailsa’s ongoing theoretical interests include: fashion theory in the expanded field; curatorial rhetoric as pedagogy; and the performance of identity, specifically related to gender and Camp. Her published and internationally presented doctoral research undertaken at UTS DAB School of Design's Imagining Fashion Futures Lab concerns typologies related to material and non-material fashion forms, investigating music video 1980-2020, in contribution to an evolving definition of the fashion/post-fashion object. Her current writing considers: fashion, media and ageing; posthumanisn in costume and production design; and Antipodean popular music and fan cultures.
