Dr Alejandra Mery Keitel

Alejandra holds over 15 years of teaching experience at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) with diverse teaching roles within the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology (FEIT), the Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building (DAB) and the Faculty and School of Transdisciplinary Innovation (TDI).  

Throughout her time at UTS, a standout measure of Alejandra’s success as a teacher in Interaction Design and related areas (such as Product Design and Innovation) has been the high quality of student work at different course levels, along with increasing positive feedback from students, and subject and area coordinators alike. A significant achievement in Alejandra’s academic career has been creating meaningful and enriching learning experiences for students that have resulted in subject and course coordinators to repeatedly invite her to teach alongside them, as well as to take on additional subjects. As a casual academic, Alejandra has been a tutor across subjects that include Interaction Design Studio, Human-Centred Design (Research) Methods, Analogue and Digital user Experience, Design Thinking, and User-Centred Design. In addition, she has been the subject coordinator, lecturer and tutor for Inside Design, Navigating Entrepreneurial Ecosystems, and Fundamentals of Interaction Design.

Alejandra’s teaching practice focuses on individual and collaborative student experiences, encouraging students to engage with content in a critical and reflective way, assessing, further researching and applying information to create new knowledge of their own. She believes in a collaborative and tutorial-wide learning environment, fostering students' ability to engage, stay involved, and learn from each other and their diverse backgrounds. Alejandra tries to bring this philosophy into her teaching strategies and modalities as much as possible, cultivating in students a reflective and critical approach to assignment production, particularly in terms of their responding to assessment requirements and marking criteria.

Since the start of her teaching career in 2004, Alejandra has contributed to the development of numerous subjects, both through their creation and redesign, revising content, assessment tasks and delivery support material to better meet emerging learning objectives and student feedback as well as emerging industry demands.
