BIO

Dr Ali Altaee is working at the forefront of renewable energy, water engineering, and soil remediation, developing innovative technologies in alternative water sources.
A senior lecturer in Engineering and Information Technology at UTS, Ali is a member of the UTS Centre for Green Technology (CGT), and of the Centre for Technology in Water and Wastewater (CTWW), which is a leading research centre in the field of alternative water sources.
He has developed industrial and academic expertise working at both industrial research centres and institutes of higher education, and has particular research expertise in the areas of reverse osmosis and membrane technology.

His research interests include sustainable development, water quality, environmental impact assessment, water engineering, and environmental awareness.

In 2011, he was a key member in a team of researchers at Surrey University who developed a world-first pilot plant for water purification using osmotic energy. The project was awarded the Queen’s Anniversary award for research that year.

Ali has also worked on the development of a new concept for power generation from a chemical potential gradient, a novel technique for power generation using membrane technology.

His innovative research outcomes have also resulted in the development of a low-energy treatment technique for seawater used in thermal evaporators, which is currently under commercialisation.

Ali completed his BSc Engineering (Civil), at UTS, and his Master of Environmental Science Engineering at the University of New South Wales. He earned his PhD, which focused on environmental engineering, from Brighton University in the UK.
