BIO

Dr Ali Vergili is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Economics Department at UTS. He is an applied microeconomist working across health economics, demography, development, and labour economics, with a focus on how policies shape family and labour market decisions. His current project examines public versus private healthcare provision, asking how birth settings shape maternal and child health outcomes.

His research uses linked administrative and survey data to evaluate policy. Recent work covers the fertility effects of cash transfers to families, the health and labour market consequences of job loss and severe health shocks, and how beliefs and expectations shape fertility and employment decisions. He also studies bidding behaviour in sequential auctions.

Ali's work has been published in Demography. He completed his PhD at UTS and was previously a postdoctoral researcher at the e61 Institute.
