Professor Alison (Ally) Hutton holds a position as Professor of Nursing at the WHO Collaborating Centre for Nursing Midwifery and Health Development at the University of Technology where she is the education lead for nursing and midwifery.  Ally’s research work focuses on health care, primarily in the areas of high-visibility, high-consequence events that are either planned (such as mass gatherings/major events) or unplanned (such as disasters). For many years, Ally has worked for the International Council of Nurses (ICN) in emergency preparedness and disaster competencies. She led an international review of the disaster competencies in 2015 and was part of the group of expert nurses who developed the second iteration of the ICN Disaster Competencies in 2019. She finalized the Tier 3 Disaster competencies for nurses deployed in 2023. As well as being a board member of the World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine, the International Board of Disaster Medicine, and the Centre of Festival and Events.
