IMPACT SUMMARY

Dr. Montgomery has a strong track record in delirium education and innovative models of care for older people. As project manager of the Ramsay Health Research Foundation funded Evaluating Implementation of Delirium Education Using Clinical Simulation project, she led research translating evidence into clinical education and practice. With an Australian Government Postgraduate Research Internship (Ramsay Health) and a University of Wollongong (UOW) PhD matched scholarship, her PhD randomised controlled trial evaluated objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) and group-OSCE (GOSCE) interventions. These approaches increased clinicians’ confidence and competence and adherence to delirium care standards across multiple hospitals. As the Australasian Delirium Association secretary and board member, she designed and facilitates the Foundations of Delirium Workshop, an interactive, interprofessional education program combining lectures and simulation-based learning, now delivered nationally. Montgomery revised dementia and delirium policy within a private healthcare organisation, embedding delirium screening into routine practice and aligning services with National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards. Dr. Montgomery has worked with 22 residential aged care facilities (RACFs) to implement structured clinical tools to improve confidence in the assessment, management, and communication of acutely unwell residents. The tools are now widely embedded into these RACFs. A career highlight is that she successfully established and led a post-diagnostic memory clinic at University of Wollongong (UOW), Enhance, which delivers rehabilitation and reablement interventions for people living with dementia and their carers. She continues to develop innovative dementia and delirium care models, including a pilot RCT of virtual reality therapy and delirium recovery clinic.
