Anne’s research in engineering education has included work on improving the understanding of the learning associated with, and assessment of, collaborative learning and flipped learning environments, including the innovative use of self and peer assessment processes and the provision of feedback for developing professional judgement. Her experience in practiced-based education has motivated her linking of students’ attribute development to those required for professional practice. Recently she has conducted research to characterise the renegotiation of academic identity for engineering academics who are transitioning to research in engineering education.

She has served in several leadership roles in the Faculty including as the inaugural Head of School of Professional Practice and Leadership, which was established to reflect the Faculty's longstanding commitment to preparing engineering and IT students for professional practice and as a focus for research and innovation in engineering and IT education.

Anne has received national recognition for her work in educational research and development including an OLT National Teaching Fellowship, the Engineers Australia Engineering Excellence Award, the Australasian Association of Engineering Education (AAEE) Teaching Excellence Award, the AAEE Award for Excellence in Research Design (twice) and an ALTC Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning.

Anne is a longstanding member of the AAEE Executive Committee and currently the immediate past President. She facilitates the annual AAEE Winter School for researchers to support novice researchers in their transition to engineering education research. She also serves on the Editorial Board for the European Journal for Engineering Education.
