BIO
I am the Executive Manager of the Research Capability and Development Team at UTS, with a comprehensive understanding of the Australian competitive research grant environment and international research landscape. My knowledge and expertise extend over the entire research funding ecosystem and includes grant development, coordination and management; policy; governance; strategic planning; and communication. This knowledge has stemmed from working with individuals and teams in the Australian higher education sector, government and non-government organisations.
With a career spanning over 20 years, I have worked with senior management at the faculty and institutional levels, and individual researchers to develop successful research funding pipelines with a goal to increase research funding performance. I have conceptualised and implemented several research, and researcher development plans to enhance institutional performance which has included strategies to maximise funding success and increase external engagement; workshops and resources to build researcher capability; and tailored career development advice for researchers at all career stages.
I have contributed to increasing institutional external funding success rates from major national funding agencies (ARC and NHMRC), and philanthropic organisations such as the Ian Potter Foundation, Australian Rotary Health Foundation, Cancer Institute NSW, Environmental Trust NSW and Perpetual, Horizon 2020. I have also coordinated and managed large multi-institutional funding bids such as ARC Centres of Excellence, and coordinated faculty submissions for the Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA), and Engagement and Impact Assessment (EIA) evaluations.
Prior to joining UTS in 2018, I was employed in various research management roles at the University of Sydney and at Macquarie University. These roles included grants officer (and then senior grants officer) in the central university research office, and faculty research manager in the Faculty of Arts and then in the Faculty of Humans Sciences at Macquarie University. I am a member of the Australasian Research Management Society (ARMS); Society of Research Administrators USA (SRA) and the European Association of Research Managers and Administrators (EARMA).
