BIO

Cynthujah Mohamed Ashraf is a Research Consultant at the Institute for Sustainable Futures (ISF), University of Technology Sydney, where her work focuses on power systems modelling and analysis, with particular emphasis on energy management and demand response.

With an academic foundation in power engineering and control systems, she contributes to applied and policy‑relevant research aimed at improving the performance and flexibility of modern energy systems. Prior to joining ISF, she worked at UNSW, where she was involved in research on the behavioural analysis of distributed energy resources during major grid disturbances.

During her PhD, Cynthujah investigated a range of demand response mechanisms, including direct load control, the design of novel rebate schemes for participating customers, and the development of real‑time pricing strategies for indirect load control. Her research incorporated pricing components that account for adverse network conditions and extended to the use of demand response for ancillary and regulation services. She has also worked on home energy management systems, exploring stochastic scheduling of household appliances.

Cynthujah’s research interests include demand response, energy management, power system modelling, renewable energy integration, and electricity pricing. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Honours) and a PhD in Electrical Engineering.
