BIO
Dr. Daniel Enosi Tuipulotu is a Lecturer at UTS in the School of Life Sciences, Faculty of Science. He completed his PhD in virology at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. He then undertook postdoctoral training in Immunology at the Australian National University, Canberra. In 2024 he established his research group at UTS. His research aims to advance our understanding host immunity to infectious diseases and to develop novel treatments for microbial infections.
Current Research Projects:
• To develop novel therapies for antimicrobial-resistant pathogens.
Antimicrobial resistance is one of the top global public health threats. The antimicrobial pipeline is stagnant and there is an urgent need to develop new antimicrobials. This project aims to identify small-molecule compounds, synthetic peptides, bacteriophages and lysins with the potential to be developed into new therapeutics for antimicrobial-resistant bacteria and viruses.
• To understand the host immune responses to pathogens.
This project aims to understand how innate immune responses, specifically interferon signalling, controls bacterial and viral infections. We will focus on characterising the antimicrobial functions of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) during bacterial and viral infections.
