BIO

Dr Danica Solina was awarded her PhD in experimental physics in 2002 from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). In her postdoc at GKSS (now Helmholtz-Zentrum Geestacht) she worked on exchange biased systems studied using neutron diffraction. While working with students in Germany Danica developed a fascination with self- efficacy and its impact on learning. She returned to Australia and undertook a Graduate Diploma in psychology with a focus on Cognition and Learning while teaching Mathematics and Physics, increasing her fascination of how this subject matter was learned. She currently works at UTS as a Lecturer and has a mission to improve the outcomes of physics and mathematics education of first year students.

Her education research interests are metacognition, the impact of subjects on follow on subjects and using this impact as feedback to improve pre-requisite subjects.

Danica also continues to do work researching magnetic materials and is a committee member of the Australian Institute of Physics.
