BIO
Darrall is an innovator in education with a Masters in Design and a PhD in Education. He has held senior positions such as Associate Head of School and Director of Teaching and Learning in the School of Design at UTS, where he is currently Adjunct Fellow in the School of International Studies and Education.
Darrall is a recipient of awards for his innovation and excellence in teaching and technology-enhanced learning, including the UTS Equity, Diversity and Social Justice Award for his organisation and supervision of community-based projects that foster social impact and inclusion. He has published over 30 peer-reviewed papers that explore cutting-edge pedagogies and practices for developing student capabilities in various domains. His publications critically examine the integration of graduate attributes and quality criteria, the role of technology-enhanced learning, and the development of students’ self-assessment and evaluative judgement skills.
Darrall's research and design thinking developed assessment software called ReView and a transdisciplinary assessment framework: Capability that Respects Individuality (CAPRI). This framework is based on 5 holistic categories tagged to assessment criteria for marking student work that value Communication and Collaboration, Attitudes and Values, Practical and Professional, Research and Critical Thinking, Innovation and Creativity (mnemonic CAPRI). Marks relating to these categories then respect the individual strengths of students beyond subject and discipline boundaries.
