IMPACT SUMMARY

Dr Erin Turbitt’s research has shaped international genomics initiatives, including the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) and Clinical Sequencing Evidence-Generating Research (CSER) studies in the USA, the NHS Genomic Medicine Service in the UK, and DNA Screen in Australia. Her work has informed Australian parliamentary inquiries on drug approvals and novel medical technologies and contributed to inclusive research practices through consent tools and guidelines for engaging under-represented communities in genomics research.

Dr Turbitt’s current impactful project is NutureNextGen, which aims to fill a critical gap in the support of parents of children with genetic neurodevelopmental conditions. The consumer-led research project seeks to co-design a digital tool to better equip parents to receive balanced, strengths-based information about the child informed by the lived experience of other families.
