BIO

Esther Mirjam is an applied economist and DECRA fellow whose research spans labour, development and family economics. Her work examines how people make choices about education, job search, work, migration and fertility, and how public policies shape these individual choices and the economy at large. Her current research centers on young graduates and labour markets in West Africa, supported by a large-scale field-based data collection initiative. She also studies domestic violence, maternity leave policies and vocational education in high-income countries.

Esther Mirjam’s research has been published in leading international economics journals, including The Economic Journal, Labour Economics, and the Journal of Comparative Economics. Her work has been supported by several highly competitive grants, notably a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) from the Australian Research Council, research grants from the Structural Transformation and Economic Growth (STEG) programme, and funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation.
