Dr. Haleh Rasekh is a highly accomplished civil engineer, currently serving as a Senior Lecturer at the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Technology Sydney (UTS). Her expertise spans ground support systems, rock mechanics engineering, concrete materials technology, and sustainable building practices.

Dr. Rasekh's research primarily focuses on rock mechanics, particularly on cable bolts and mining applications, where she addresses complex challenges in both civil and mining industries. Additionally, she explores concrete durability, chloride ion penetration, and strategies for mitigating steel reinforcement corrosion to enhance the long-term performance of infrastructure. Her contributions to the field include over 53 research papers and book chapters, underlining her commitment to advancing knowledge in civil and geotechnical engineering. In recognition of her outstanding research, she received the ‘Best Early Career Researcher Paper Award’ at the Australasian Conference on Computational Mechanics in 2019.

Since 2024, Dr. Rasekh has taken on the role of Major Coordinator and Advisor for Postgraduate Geotechnical Engineering for the Tunnelling and Underground Engineering (TUE) program. She and her team have developed the TUE major, the first of its kind in Australia, in collaboration with leading tunnelling and underground engineering companies. As a Senior Lecturer, Dr. Rasekh is actively involved in course design and delivery, ensuring that students receive industry-aligned and research-driven education. Her commitment to an inclusive, practice-oriented learning environment prepares students to meet the evolving challenges of the engineering sector. She frequently collaborates with industry experts, integrating guest lectures and site visits into her courses to bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world engineering practices.

In addition to her teaching and research activities, Dr. Rasekh has played significant editorial roles. She was the Lead Guest Editor for the "Cement and Concrete Research" special issue in Buildings journal. Currently, she serves as the Lead Guest Editor for "Low-Carbon Cement and Concrete in Modern Construction: Towards Green and Sustainability" in Buildings and is a Guest Editor for "Harnessing Rock Mechanics for Sustainable Geotechnical Engineering: Recent Advances and Future Directions" in CMES-Computer Modeling in Engineering & Sciences. Moreover, she actively reviews for various prestigious journals, including Acta Geotechnica and Scientific Reports.

A Category 1 supervisor, Dr. Rasekh is qualified to supervise Honours, Masters by Research, PhD, and Postdoctoral students. To date, she has successfully supervised one PhD student as a co-supervisor and is currently the principal supervisor for one student and the co-supervisor for three others.
