BIO
Helen Chan is the Manager, Open Scholarship and Copyright at UTS Library, where she leads strategic initiatives that advance open access, responsible publishing practices and respect for Indigenous Data Sovereignty.
With a career spanning academic libraries in Canada, the USA, Egypt, and the UAE, Helen brings a global perspective to scholarly communication.
At UTS Library, she oversees the Open Scholarship and Copyright department, which delivers:
- ATSIDA, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Data Archive, ensuring culturally respectful stewardship of First Nations research data.
- Copyright advisory and compliance services, guiding the university community in navigating copyright law and licensing for teaching, publishing, and research.
- Research Data Management support to train and support researchers in how to handle, share and preserve data responsibly.
- UTS ePress, the University's diamond open access publisher supporting journals and open textbooks to enhance learning and research whilst removing barriers to high quality scholarly resources
Helen is passionate about fostering open access and regularly collaborates across disciplines to build capacity in open scholarship.
