Isabel Rousset is an architectural historian and Chancellor’s Research Fellow at the University of Technology, Sydney. Her research focusses on the historical cross-sections between architecture, social politics, and development. Her book The Architecture of Social Reform: Housing, Tradition and German Modernism was published by Manchester University Press in 2022 and traced the intellectual links between housing design expertise and nineteenth-century social theory in Germany. She is currently researching the involvement of architects in community development and aided self-help programs in the postwar era. Her research has been published in the Journal of Architecture, Architectural Histories, and the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians. In 2025 her article "Down to Earth Types: Brick Buildings and the Bounds of Propriety in Berlin and Hamburg, 1904-1914" received the Founders’ Award from the Society of Architectural Historians. She currently serves as co-editor of Fabrications: Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, Australia and New Zealand.
