BIO

Dr Jiandong Chen is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Design and Society at the University of Technology Sydney. His academic background spans Chinese intellectual history, classical Chinese language and literature, and the social and political history of imperial China.

 

Dr Chen holds a PhD in History from UTS, completed with the support of a UTS President’s Scholarship. His doctoral research examined local authority, community leadership and social change during the Han dynasty. He also holds a PhD in Chinese Language and Literature from Shanghai University, where his research focused on the grammar and verbal system of the classical Chinese text Guanzi. He completed an MA in History at Beijing Normal University, specialising in the history of the Wei, Jin, and Northern and Southern Dynasties, and a BA in Literature through the Sinology Experimental Program at Wuhan University, with a major in ancient Chinese classics.
