His main research interests are focused on translational research that includes development of vaccines and diagnostics for protozoal diseases of economic importance. He was awarded a DSc by Liverpool University in 2006 for pioneering research on the biology of cyst-forming coccidia. He has published over 200 peer-reviewed research papers and was the lead inventor on over 40 patents granted from his research.

Highlights of his research include:

• Performing strategic and applied research into parasitic diseases, including food and vector borne diseases
• Provide research training and technical support to improve the detection and control of parasitic diseases
• Improve diagnosis, detection and treatment of endemic parasitic diseases
• Prepare for identification and treatment of NTD’s inc. malaria, leishmaniasis and amebiasis
