Julia is chair of the international advisory board for 'Immersive Arts': a new £6 million, three year, UK-wide scheme that will offer an inclusive and accessible programme of research, training, funding opportunities and events for over 200 artists experimenting with immersive materials. Other advisory board members include representatives from Sundance Film Festival, the Royal Shakespeare Company, MIT Open Documentary Lab, Venice Film Festival and more. Funding for Immersive Arts comes from an ambitious partnership between the UK’s Arts and Humanities Research Council, Arts Council England, Creative Scotland, Arts Council of Northern Ireland and Arts Council of Wales.
Julia is a member of the advisory board of Frame Documentary, Australia’s first and only organisation supporting non-fiction artists working with emerging technologies. This role includes assessing the applications for Frame Documentary Lab, a six-month acceleration programme for Victorian non-fiction creators working at the intersection of art and technology. Julia has also mentored successful teams and presented on her research at lab events.
