Prof. Justin Lipman (IEEE Senior Member '12) is Director of the Cyber Digital Center (CDC) within the Telecom Research Institute (TRI) at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). He leads industry-engaged research that advances secure, resilient, and scalable connected technologies, spanning cybersecurity, RF and wireless systems, network ptotocols, IoT, digital agriculture, smart cities, and data privacy.

He brings 12 years of R&D leadership experience from Intel and Alcatel, complemented by 10+ years of international consulting. He has also served as a trusted expert witness in product litigation covering wireless systems, embedded systems, and communication protocols.

At UTS, Prof. Lipman has held senior leadership roles including Director of the RF and Communications Technologies Lab and Deputy Chief Scientist of the Food Agility Cooperative Research Center and Director of Research Translation. He has secured over $35M in research funding, holds 24+ US patents, and has published 130+ peer reviewed papers cited more than 7,000 times. He also contributes to standards development and collaborative programs that translate research into real-world impact. 

Prof. Lipman's expertise spans all "things" adaptive, connected, distributed and ubiquitous - embedded systems, cybersecurity, IoT, Wireless comunications (5G, O-RAN), Network Protocols, Software Defined Network (SDN), Digital Agriculture/Urban Greening and Smart Cities. He actively supervises Honours and HDR/PhD students in these areas.

Major projects:

• Lead CI UTS Vault - a $8M 900sqm zone 3/4 PSPF-compliant facility and initiated the UTS Nokia 5G Futures Lab.
• Lead CI UTS Cyberskills program - $3M multiyear project to impact cyber security in Australia.
• Lead CI UTS/Kyndryl Cyberskills program - $560K project targetting cyber skills training for Non For Profits
• Lead CI Bosch/Food Agility CRC Privacy Preserving Technologies - $1.7M project focused on data privacy.
