TEACHING AND SUPERVISION
I have been involved in teaching in higher education since 2006. During my career I went from teaching as a tutor, being a subject coordinator, through developing individual subjects and the whole Master Programmes to being involved in the projects and panels that make strategic decisions about the evolution of the university-wide curriculum to be able to respond to changing external environments. I have taught different units at Undergraduate and Master levels and I have supervised several Undergraduate and Master Projects. I have also proposed and designed subjects, majors and whole degrees.
In 2013 I was nominated for the Teaching Excellence Award at King’s College London. I completed Postgraduate Certificate in Educational Practices and Postgraduate Certificate in Research Degree Supervision at Bournemouth University as well as the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice in Higher Education at King’s College London.
Between 2011 and 2014 I was Undergraduate Exam Board Deputy Chair in the Department of Informatics at King’s College London. Within this role, together with the Chair, we were responsible for managing the whole teaching and learning process within the Department. Currently, since January 2021, I am a Deputy Head of School of Computer Science and I am responsible for the School's Teaching and Learning portfolio.
I have been also very actively involved in initiating and leading programmes to support HDRs. At Bournemouth University I established and led a PGR Excellence Programme in the Department of Computing and Informatics. Now, at UTS I initialised series on presentation skills trainings for our PhD students.
For the last few years, I was also involved in bridging the gaps between the graduates skills and market demand which is one of the key challenges in ever changing computer science field. It is our responsibility to provide our students with up-to-date education, thus we need to constantly adapt our curriculum because. At King's College London, I was a member of the “Big Data programme” group led by Vice-Principal (Education). The goal of the group was to prepare cross-school teaching framework in the area of Big Data in response to the growing market demand for people with data science skills. While working at Bournemouth University in the UK, together with two of my colleagues we obtained £50k from the Higher Education Innovation Fund to develop a project “Data Science and Analytics Training and Engagement Services for Business” (08/2016 – 07/2017). Its aim was to help businesses to close the gap when it comes to the analytics skills.
One of the responses to the evolving job market demand are recently created at UTS: (i) Master of Business Analytics (2020), (ii) Master of Artificial Intelligence (2022). For Master of Business Analytics, I have been a member of the design and development team. This degree is a unique transdisciplinary program of study in business analytics that is delivered from 2020 in two modes (i) face-to-face and (ii) online only (with subjects drawn from UTS Business School, the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology and the Faculty of Transdisciplinary Innovation). In the case of Master of Artificial Intelligence, I was responsible for the programme development in my role of a Deputy Head of School (Teaching and Learning).
I am also involved in a university-wide initiatives leading to the development of fully online and face-to-face short courses that can be offered in a form of micro-credentials to our industry partners and wider public. First, in 2018, I managed the Advanced Analytics Institute Educational Portfolio of Short Courses at UTS. Between 2019 and 2021, within the School of Computer Science, I led the Short Courses portfolio development offered to industry partners and general public. One of the projects that I managed as the lead from the School aimed at creating micro-credited, fully online short courses for national and international Telstra employees (~3,000) in the space of data analytics, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
I have taught different units at Undergraduate and Master levels and I have supervised several Undergraduate and Master Projects.
