FUNDED RESEARCH
Professor Williams' research focuses on the evolving role of pharmacists in improving access to quality healthcare and medicines within primary care and community settings. Her work encompasses pharmacist prescribing, expanded scope of practice, community pharmacy services, pharmacist integration within multidisciplinary healthcare teams, medication safety, quality use of medicines, and pharmacy workforce development.
A longstanding interest in consumer self-care and non-prescription medicines underpins much of her research. Her early work examined consumer use of non-prescription medicines and access to medicines information, including the emerging role of digital technologies in supporting healthcare decision-making. More recently, her research has contributed to the development, implementation and evaluation of innovative pharmacist-led services, including minor ailment management, pharmacist prescribing, contraception services, and the integration of pharmacists into general practice and other primary care settings.
Professor Williams is also actively engaged in pharmacy education research, with interests in contemporary curriculum design, digital health, technology-enhanced learning, professional capability development, and preparing the pharmacy workforce for emerging models of care. Through her research, she seeks to generate evidence that informs policy, supports healthcare innovation, and enables pharmacists to practise to their full scope in meeting the healthcare needs of the community.
