Luke Tipene is an architecture academic in the School of Architecture at UTS. His research is centred on the history, theory and practice of architectural drawing and questions how accuracy and uncertainty produce new knowledge in the field of architecture. 

Luke takes an interdisciplinary approach to his research through the exploration of image production in art and architecture. His work spans four key themes: the history and theory of unbuildable depictions of architecture, the effect of representation on the cross-cultural translations of architectural knowledge, experimental drawing and its impact on knowledge production in architecture, and the relationship between architectural drawing and the production of environmentally conscious design. 

Luke maintains an active practice in drawing, curation and design. His work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and he has been involved in several artist-in-residence programs in Australia and the UK. He has published in leading architectural journals, including Fabrications, Space and Culture, The Journal of Architecture, and Places Journal. He is the Executive Editor for idea Journal and has peer reviewed for Fabrications and The Journal of Architecture. 

Luke is currently completing a PhD at UTS under the supervision of Professor Charles Rice. As a lecturer in the Bachelor of Design in Interior Architecture, Luke delivers workshop-style learning that encourages students to explore ideas through a variety of experimental drawing methods. He is active on working groups and steering committees across the university.
