BIO

Maddy Langabeer is a passionate social justice advocate with over five years of experience in the higher education sector. As the Engaged Teaching and Learning Curricular Coordinator within the Centre for Social Justice and Inclusion, she coordinates, delivers, and evaluates the Shopfront Community Coursework Program - UTS’s flagship social justice curricular initiative.

Maddy’s practice is underpinned by the belief that universities have a responsibility not only to support the intellectual development of their students but also to cultivate civic-minded graduates who are equipped to contribute meaningfully to society. This ethos underpins her coordination of Shopfront, which has experienced transformative growth under her guidance.

Since 2023, Maddy has led a period of significant expansion for the program. Student participation has nearly tripled - from 1,900 to over 5,500 in 2025 - while the number of community partnerships more than doubled, from 49 to 114. This expansion has been driven by a strategic increase in subject collaborations across UTS.

Her contributions have been recognised through multiple awards, including the Vice-Chancellor’s Career and Professional Development Award for High Performing Professional Staff (2022) and the Vice-Chancellor’s Professional Staff Excellence Award for Strategic Partnerships (2024).

A strong advocate for equitable access to education, Maddy promotes inclusive learning opportunities regardless of geography, ethnicity, gender, or financial background. She holds a Bachelor of Business, with majors in Business Law and International Business.
