BIO

Dr Mahmoud Karimi is an Associate Professor and former ARC DECRA fellow at UTS. He leads the Vibroacoustics Research Group at the Centre for Audio, Acoustics and Vibration (CAAV) within the School of Electrical, Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering at UTS. Mahmoud received his PhD in Mechanical Engineering from UNSW, with a focus on vibration and acoustics. He has been a visiting researcher at several prestigious universities, such as the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP), University of Cambridge in the UK, the Chair of Vibroacoustics of Vehicles and Machines, Technical University of Munich (TUM) in Germany and Laboratory of Vibration and Acoustics (LVA), INSA Lyon in France.

 

Dr Karimi has worked in the industry for five years as a Mechanical Engineer and also has nine years of academic experience since the completion of his PhD. He has collaboratively attracted $7.8M ($3.4M as lead Chief Investigator) in research income since starting his academic journey in 2017. Dr Karimi has authored over 90 peer-reviewed publications. 

Mahmoud contributes to institutional and local ECR strategy at UTS by serving as a member of the FEIT Research Degrees Committee (RDC), Thesis Examination Committee (TEC) and MME research committee.

In these leadership roles, Mahmoud oversees the editorial process and strategic direction of the journal, working with a national and international team of editors and reviewers to ensure the publication of high-quality research across all areas of acoustics and vibration. Mahmoud is committed to supporting both established and emerging researchers and to growing the journal’s reach and impact within Australia and internationally.
