BIO

Dr Mária (Marika) Kieferová is a quantum computing researcher at the UTS Centre for Quantum Software and Information (QSI) and Australia Quantum Program Lead at Google Quantum AI. Her work focuses on developing quantum algorithms and software tools that bridge theoretical advances with practical applications in optimisation, machine learning, and benchmarking quantum processors.

Maria earned her PhD in Physics and Astronomy from the University of Waterloo, Canada, complemented by a cotutelle PhD at Macquarie University. She has held postdoctoral positions at UTS and has contributed to several major research initiatives, including projects funded by the Australian Research Council and Defence Innovation Network. Her recent publications in Nature and Science explore fundamental aspects of quantum dynamics and algorithmic design for near-term quantum devices.

Beyond her research, Maria is passionate about fostering diversity and inclusion in quantum science. She actively mentors early-career researchers and advocates for greater representation of women in STEM. Her leadership roles include serving as Associate Editor for Quantum Science and Technology and contributing to global collaborations that advance quantum computing education and innovation.
