Dr Marie Joshua Tapas is an experienced materials engineer with expertise in various materials characterization equipment and proficiency in cement and cementitious materials. With over 10 years combined working experience in both the industry and academia, she is also an experienced team lead, skilled at managing laboratory operations and delivering on critical investigations to analyze root cause of failure.

Dr Tapas did her PhD on alkali-silica reaction which is a major durability issue in Australia. As part of her PhD she spent almost 1 year as an exchange researcher in the Laboratory of Construction Materials, EPFL Switzerland which has played a vital role in developing her expertise in cement and cementitious materials. She joined UTS after PhD completion as Research Associate for the UTS-Boral Centre which aims to develop and commercialize new generation of low carbon cements. As research associate, she led all concrete durability work for the Centre and supervises multiple PhD projects.

Dr Tapas served as RILEM Youth Council, Pacific Representative from 2020 to 2023 and Concrete Institute of Australia NEXGen Chair from 2023 to 2025.
