Maruf Chowdhury is currently working as an Associate Professor of operations and supply chain management at UTS Business School. Prior to joining UTS as a lecturer, Dr Chowdhury held academic positions in the University of Western Australia, Curtin University, Australia and Chittagong University, Bangladesh. He has published many articles in top-tier journals of Operations and Supply Chain Management including Omega: The International Journal of Management Science, International Journal of Production Economics, Supply Chain Management: an International Journal and others. He is also contributing as a reviewer to the top tier journals of Operations and Supply Chain Management. Maruf has been successful in securing external grants from government (e.g. Department of Industry Innovation and Science) and private sector (Association of Supply Chain Management USA, Slyp, Volte).

Maruf is an expert in Resilient, Sustainable and Circular supply Chain Management Modelling. His research interest includes supply chain sustainability, resilience, decarbonization, life cycle assessment (LCA), climate action, technology management for sustainability, applied operations research, and system dynamic modelling. The decision models that he developed for different research papers and funded projects are highly impactful and helped many industries to achieve supply chain sustainability and resilience in Australia and beyond. His Environmental Impact Assessment Model for digital receipt supply chain as against printed receipt helped managers and policy makers for setting climate positive actions. He also conducted research on environmental impact assessment of peer to peer renting of garments as against buying new cloth which received substantial media attention.Similarly, his economic analysis for Diabetic Association Australia helped the decision makers of national diabetic services scheme in managing costs under different programs. Because of Maruf's outstanding contribution to research he received UTS Vice Chancellor's research excellence award 2025.

Dr Chowdhury has professional experiences in different industrial settings such as Textile and Apparel industry (consultant), Petroleum refinery (procurement professional). He also received a number of awards in his career including UTS Vice Chancellor's research excellence award 2025, Curtin University publication award for prestigious journal article publications, teaching excellence award at UTS Business School and Curtin Business School, Curtin strategic international research scholarship and Dean’s merit scholarship at the University of Chittagong for outstanding results in undergraduate and postgraduate level.
