Matt has extensive teaching experience at the undergraduate and graduate level, within both in-person and online teaching environments. A passionate educator, Matt has always prioritised opportunities to teach and seek feedback to refine his personal pedagogy throughout his early academic career.

As a teaching associate at Monash University, Matt held weekly online lecture tutorials for the Monash Graduate Diploma of Psychology. Matt personally requested anonymous feedback from each class to improve his teaching pedagogy and received an average teacher evaluation score of 4.5 / 5 (spread over 6 topics, 2015-2018).

Topics included: Introduction to computational neuroscience, Abnormal Psychology, Developmental and Biological Psychology, Research Design and Analysis, Research Methods and Theory, Perception and Cognition.

In 2021 I was contracted by the Jagiellonian University in Krakow as an Invited International Specialist to design an intensive advanced EEG analysis workshop, for the International Doctoral Program in Cognitive Neuroscience. For this unit, I designed a series of original lectures in English, with hands-on MATLAB programming exercises, across a total of 15 teaching hours. This unit was delivered remotely, and I incorporated live coding-exercises, shared problem-solving, and frequent interaction to engage the class and vary the assessment formats.


Most recently, at the University of Sydney, I’ve had the opportunity to deliver live-lectures to 3rd year and Honours level psychology undergraduates. In 2022 I was invited to give a series of 8 lectures in the Perceptual Systems unit (PSYC3013). I incorporated live demonstrations, in-class experiments, and online polls to diversify the methods of student learning.

I also convened an Advanced Seminar for the Honours cohort ("Can we measure Consciousness?"). These seminars are weekly discussions on a set paper, with an assessment each week in the form of a conference-style presentation. Having the opportunity to discuss cutting-edge research with these students was one of the highlights of my early academic career.
