Dr Matthew Drewery is a researcher in catalysis and sustainable chemical processes, with expertise in heterogeneous catalysis, waste valorisation, industrial process development, and emissions mitigation. His research focuses on developing catalytic technologies and processes that convert waste streams into valuable products and reducing the environmental impact of industrial processes.

After completing undergraduate degrees in Chemical Engineering and Chemistry at the University of Newcastle, Dr Drewery joined the University's catalysis research group, where he worked on an industry-funded project investigating the catalytic conversion of industrial waste streams into value-added products. This work spanned laboratory-scale catalyst development through to pilot-scale process implementation.

Dr Drewery completed his PhD in 2018 at the University of Newcastle, investigating the application of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFCs) for the conversion of waste chemicals into electricity and value-added chemicals. His research has since expanded to the development of catalytic technologies for industrial decarbonisation, including the utilisation of waste streams and the mitigation of fugitive emissions. His current work focuses on the design and application of zeolite-based catalysts for the catalytic oxidation of dilute, unusable methane emissions from industrial processes, with an emphasis on scalable technologies that can be translated to industrial practice.
