BIO

Matt Gidney is a filmmaker, animator, engineer and academic with an international career in high-end computer graphics, animation, visual effects and the arts.

His current research focuses on aspects of stereography, studio pipeline development and cloud services integration. In his work for the School of Design's animation program, he is the principle developer engaged in building a pipeline-driven animation studio specifically for accommodating students and emerging creators who possess a wide variety of skills, aptitudes and abilities.

Matt has worked in the UK, US, Singapore and Australia for Lucasfilm, Moving Picture Company, Framestore, Animal Logic, Rushes, Double Negative and others in the computer graphics industry. Over more than 20 years, he has been leading and supervising creative teams on major film and commercial projects around the world. These include The Lego Movie, The Legend of the Guardians, The Clone Wars, Troy, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and numerous non feature-film productions..

At UTS, he is director of the animation program and specialises in all form of animation practice, cinema history, digital cinematography, story development, visual effects, automation, perception and experimental animation.
