BIO

Dr Moira Scerri is a Senior Lecturer in Strategic Supply Chain Management.

Dr Moira Scerri is a leading researcher in strategic supply chain management, service design, service operations, service networks and performance management. She has a strong focus on innovation, inclusion, and value co-creation in complex service ecosystems. Her work brings together service science, emerging technologies, and participatory design methods to address contemporary challenges in health, ageing, and chronic disease prevention.

A pioneer in the use of elder personas and inclusive service design, Dr Scerri’s research empowers older people and other underserved populations to shape the services they use. She co-designs tools and frameworks that reveal how services can better support ageing in place, emotional wellbeing, and digital engagement.

Dr Scerri is also actively involved in cross-sectoral projects that improve service delivery for people living with chronic health conditions. Her research in diabetes care uses customer journey mapping to identify service touchpoints—such as GP visits, pharmacy interactions, allied health appointments, and digital tools—that can be leveraged to improve health literacy and promote preventative behaviours. By illuminating gaps and opportunities across these touchpoints, her work supports the design of more person-centred, integrated, and proactive service systems.

Her current research portfolio includes the role of service robots and conversational agents in aged care, virtual reality for cognitive stimulation therapy, and data-driven approaches to service productivity in health and human services. She is particularly interested in how service systems can be reconfigured to foster relational care, user empowerment, and long-term wellbeing.

As a community-engaged scholar, Dr Scerri partners with community groups, business chambers, health service providers and governments to foster collaborative multi-stakeholder approach and solutions are realised. Moira is also a community member on the Positive Aging Advisory Group (Coffs Harbour).

In the classroom, Dr Scerri integrates research-led content and real-world examples to prepare postgraduate students in operations and quality management, supply chain innovation, new and emerging technologies and service productivity using data analytics. Her interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral approach brings a distinctive systems lens to teaching and research supervision.
