Nabeela is a research consultant in the International Development team, working on Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) projects. She has a background in engineering. She completed her master’s degree in Environmental Engineering at the University of Technology Sydney in 2015. To further her research career, she completed her doctoral studies in Humanitarian Engineering at the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Sydney. Her PhD research was focused on investigating household and community-scale sanitation practices and evaluating associated environmental health risks with case studies from Fiji and Timor-Leste. Her research involved extensive primary data collection through environmental sampling, sanitation surveys, and observations in multiple rural communities of Fiji and Timor-Leste. A significant outcome of her PhD was the development of a risk assessment framework for on-site sanitation in rural communities, emphasising unique sanitation challenges and determining safe distances of sanitation facilities from environmental waterbodies.
