BIO
Associate Professor Najah Nassif has a BSc (Hons) and a PhD (Molecular Biology) from the University of New South Wales.
Najah joined the staff at UTS in 2003 and holds the position of Associate Professor. Prior to commencing at UTS, she was a postdoctoral research Fellow at the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales.
Najah's primary research interests are in the investigation of the genetic and molecular basis of human disease with the aim of developing diagnostic and/or prognostic biomarkers and future novel therapies. Her current research is focused on understanding how dysregulation of gene expression leads to disease, with a particular focus on cancer and diabetes. Her current research topics include examining the role of gene/pseudogene interactions in gene expression regulation and the role(s) of tumour suppressor gene mutations in the regulation of cancer development and progression.
In addition to her research, Najah is committed to student learning and teaching and coordinates and teaches subjects from second year undergraduate level to Honours and Masters. She is coordinator of 91178 Applications of Molecular Biology, 69560 Genomics and Precision Medicine and 69360 Precision Medicine.
