Dr Nathan Etherington is a Lecturer in the School of Architecture at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). He is a practicing architect, registered in New South Wales and South Australia and the founder and Principal of Nathan Etherington Architect (NEA).

Nathan’s research lies at the intersection of architecture, infrastructure and territory framed both historically and through contemporary practice. His doctoral thesis, “Inscribing the Territory: The Landscape of Public works in Nineteenth-Century Sydney” considers the role of the Public Works Department in driving the colonial project through the buildings and infrastructure that reshaped the landscape of Sydney and New South Wales between 1856 and 1900.

Nathan teaches across disciplines including design, history, theory and technical subjects. His pedagogical interests are focused on the relationship of architectural design to patterns of urbanisation on the metropolitan periphery.
