A/Prof

Nham Tran

Head Of Discipline, Biomedical Engineering

School of Electrical, Mechanical and Biomedical ENG

BIO

Nham completed his PhD in non-coding RNA (ncRNA) biology at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), under the supervision of Ian Dawes and Greg Arndt at Johnson & Johnson (J&J). Following his doctoral studies, he pursued postdoctoral research with Barbara Rose, Chris O'Brien, and Jenny Gamble at different research institutes before joining the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) as a Chancellor's Fellow.

Currently, Nham leads a research programme focused on investigating the regulatory role of small RNAs in head and neck cancers. He has expertise in utilising small RNAs for cancer diagnosis and in PCR diagnostics. More recently, he has expanded into the field of cross-kingdom small RNA gene regulation, exploring how exogenous RNAs can manipulate the host immune system in infectious diseases.

Nham is a principal investigator who has received funding from organisations such as the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), Cancer Institute New York, Cancer Institute NSW, TCRN, SPHERE, and the Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project. He was also the recipient of the REDI Fellowship in 2023 and is a current Dorothea Sandars-Churchill Fellow.

Nham is subject coordinator for Industry Frameworks and Advanced Studio B subjects. He is the current Head of Dsicipline for Biomedmedical Engineering. If you are interested in studying Biomedical Engineering or joining Nham's lab, please visit www.tranlab.org or reach out to him directly.
