Current positions:

Positions previously held at UTS include: Head of the School of Marketing (1992-98, 2005-07); Associate Professor (1990-2008); Director, Postgraduate Programs; Director, UTS/Mahidol double degree Masters Program; and, Director, Centre for International Business.

Other academic positions: Visiting Professor of International Business at both Penn State and Michigan State Universities, USA.

Teaching, research and consulting activities have been in the area of international/global marketing, with a particular focus on the internationalisation of organisations in the Asian region.

Published widely in the area - publications include peer-reviewed journal articles, contributions to books, book reviews and monographs, and conference papers and presentations. More recent research includes studies of the impact of the Internet on the internationalisation of firms in emerging markets, business relationship quality in developing markets, as well as global branding and signaling in such markets (including China, Vietnam and Thailand).

Extensive supervision experience at the PhD and Masters levels. Membership of Editorial Boards have included: International Marketing Review, Journal of Business-to-Business Marketing, Journal of International Marketing.

Pioneered and established the undergraduate and postgraduate programs in international marketing at UTS (e.g. Master of Business in International Marketing), and was instrumental in establishing the Market Strategy and Information Technology Group (MSAT) and the Centre for International Business (in association with the Australian Institute of Export). Led the establishment of a double degree Masters Program in Thailand - a strategic alliance between UTS and Mahidol University offering Business (Marketing) and Management degrees.

Established strategic alliances and partnerships between UTS and universities in Thailand, China and Vietnam.

Extensive experience in teaching courses and delivering seminars in many countries (including the USA, China, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam). Teaching has focused on international marketing, international business, marketing management and strategy across undergraduate, post graduate (including MBA and Executive MBA), and industry-based programs.

Extensive experience in managing and conducting over 100 commercial market research projects (including feasibility studies, entry and expansion strategies) for Australian public and private sector organisations in the Asian region (as well as in Europe, South Africa and South America) over 3 decades.

Memberships of professional societies have included: Australia Thailand Business Council; Decision Sciences Institute; Academy of International Business; European Marketing Academy; American Marketing Association; The Australian Institute of Export; the Market Research Society of Australia; and, the Consortium of International Marketing Research.

Prior to an academic career, held management positions with large Australian industrial and consumer goods companies.


Current activities include:

University of Technology, Sydney - teaching International Marketing in Shanghai (UTS/Shanghai University); investigation of business development activities in Thailand and Vietnam for UTS Commercial; student recruitment in India for School of Business, UTS.

University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City - providing advice on UEH's internationalization and development of relationships with foreign partners, advice on postgraduate business programs (including DBA and PhD programs), as well as teaching postgraduate courses in Management Skills, International Marketing (Executive MBA, University of Quebec at Montreal), and International Business, member of various advisory and selection committees.

Phranakhon Rajabhat University - external adviser/reviewer and Member of Advisory Board for doctoral program (DBA) and proposed International MBA; teaching Advanced Business Innovation for SME Entrepreneurs (DBA).
