Nural is the Faculty Research Engagement Manager for the Faculty of Science, and part of the central Research Office team. In the Faculty, she is a member of the Partnerships team who manage all business development, commercialisation, and industry and other external engagement activities. Nural's role focuses on diversifying research funding and opportunities for the Faculty, and facilitating research collaborations and engagements with internal and external stakeholders.
Nural has a PhD in microbiology, where her research has focused on the relationship between bees, the environment and medicinal honey. She leads research on the bioactive properties of honey, specifically into its use as a topical treatment for infections caused by antibiotic resistant superbugs and as a prebiotic food to promote a healthy gut microbiome.
Nural is recognised as a global leader in medicinal honey and bee research and has extensive experience in leading and delivering industry-driven research programs, as well as working in tertiary education, industry and external stakeholder engagement, project management, strategic planning, and reporting and presenting to a wide range of audiences. She uses her strong relationship building and science communication skills to develop collaborative, strategic and impactful partnerships and opportunities. She has demonstrated success with working in small and large teams and in collaboration with stakeholders from academia, industry and government on projects that use excellent science and translational research to drive positive changes.
