IMPACT SUMMARY
Dr Paige Strudwick is an emerging leader in coral reef restoration, developing evidence-based approaches to improve the success and scalability of reef recovery efforts under climate change. Her research investigates how restoration practices influence coral survival, physiological resilience and microbial communities, generating new insights into the mechanisms that determine restoration outcomes. By integrating ecological, physiological and microbial approaches, Dr Strudwick is advancing coral restoration beyond habitat replacement towards strategies that identify resilient corals, optimise interventions and improve long-term ecosystem recovery. Her research provides critical knowledge for designing restoration approaches that are adaptive, targeted and informed by the biological mechanisms underpinning coral resilience.
Dr Strudwick’s work bridges research and application, ensuring scientific advances are translated into practical outcomes for reef management and restoration. Through collaboration with restoration practitioners, industry partners and reef communities, she supports the development of approaches that are scientifically rigorous, locally relevant and responsive to real-world conservation challenges. Alongside her research, Dr Strudwick is committed to strengthening the future of coral reef science by supporting and mentoring the next generation of researchers. Through supervision, training and knowledge exchange, she fosters an inclusive research environment that equips emerging scientists with the skills, confidence and interdisciplinary perspectives needed to address complex environmental challenges.
Through her research, collaboration, communication and commitment to developing future research capacity, Dr Strudwick is contributing to the strengthening of global efforts to conserve coral reef ecosystems in a changing climate.
