BIO

I am a physiotherapist and lecturer at the Graduate School of Health, Discipline of Physiotherapy at UTS. I have diverse experiences in academic and non-academic realms, and feel that both are important for a complete view of the world and a more holistic view of teaching and research. I have worked and lived in numerus countries including India, Japan, the Philippines, New Zealand, Australia and Denmark.

I graduated with a BSc in Sport and Exercise Science from Auckland University (New Zealand) in 2005, a Master of Physiotherapy from Sydney University (Australia) in 2008 and a PhD in Neurorehabilitation and Clinical Neurophysiology from Aalborg University (Denmark) in 2011. Following my PhD, I conducted post-doctoral research at Neuroscience Research Australia and Hammel Neurorehabilitation Centre (Denmark). Outside of academia, I have taught English in Japan (Yamaguchi) and India (Maharashtra), project managed a program to educate and empower children of street families in the Philippines (Manila), was a member of a Community Based Rehabilitation team in India (Andhra Pradesh) and was a member of a first response earthquake cleanup team in India (Gujurat).

I enjoy teaching and research and the interactions I have with colleagues and students. I currently teach Sub-acute Rehabilitation (96084), Professional Practice (96081) and supervise project groups in Research design in Physiotherapy (96086) and Research Project (96092). I supervise, and have previously supervised, numerous research-focused Masters and PhD students.

My research interests are in | Neurorehabilitation (particularly acquired brain injury) | Developing, Implementing, evaluating and using research databases to improve patient outcomes | Using emerging techniques/technologies (i.e., Virtual Reality, Blood Flow Restriction and Robotics) to improve strength and function in older people and people following neurological injuries | Meta-epidemiological research including abstract spin, trial pre-registration and quality of reporting of systematic reviews | Student knowledge / perceptions on areas of Physiotherapy taught in the UTS Masters of Physiotherapy program | Investigating the effectiveness of interventions for neck pain in people with work related neck pain.
