Dr. Piklu Roy Chowdhury (née: Piklu Bhattacharya) serves as a senior research fellow and a research-focused academic at the Australian Institute for Microbiology and Infection (AIMI), which is a part of the University of Technology Sydney's Faculty of Science. With expertise in both clinical and molecular microbiology, she addresses complex challenges in public health epidemiology and the emergence of various drug-resistant pathogens through the application of multi-omics approaches. Her research primarily seeks to generate a comprehensive understanding of infection mechanisms and host responses, with the overarching aim of developing diagnostic and preventative tools.

Trained as a molecular microbiologist at the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, she has years of experience in analysing human and animal pathogens' genomes, transcriptomes, and proteomes. Her research outputs demonstrate her expertise in investigating factors that influence host-pathogen interactions, both synergistic and antagonistic; the role of bacterial secretion systems in pathogenesis; and the impacts of lateral gene transfer on the evolution of multi-drug-resistant pathogen genomes.
