Rowena Lennox is the author of two books: Dingo Bold: the life and death of K'gari dingoes (Sydney University Press, 2021) and Fighting Spirit of East Timor: the life of Martinho da Costa Lopes (Pluto/Zed 2000). Her essays, fiction, poems and short articles have been widely published. Her writing has been awarded a NSW Premier’s History Award, the Australasian Association of Writing Programs Postgraduate Creative Writing Prize and a Griffith Review Queensland Writing Fellowship. She holds a Doctorate of Creative Arts from the University of Technology Sydney, an MA in Creative Writing from Western Sydney University and a BA with Honours in English Literature from the University of Sydney.

Her recent academic research examines the interview as a collaborative arts practice; engages narrative theory to analyse dingo management; traces connections between historical and contemporary attitudes to and treatment of dingoes; seeks to situate contemporary treatment of specific dingoes in broader historical and political-cultural contexts; and interrogates settler colonial epistemology around dingoes and explores dingoes as cultural mediators.

With more than 25 years experience in book publishing, Rowena worked as an in-house editor at McGraw-Hill, Sage Publications (London) and Allen & Unwin, and as a freelancer with many clients including Allen & Unwin, the Australian Centre for Photography, Magabala Books, Pan Macmillan, Random House and the Powerhouse Museum. She was awarded the Beatrice Davis Editorial Fellowship to spend time in New York investigating how books that think about history through the prism of personality are positioned in the market. She has had a longstanding involvement with editorial training, as a participant in the inaugural Residential Editorial Program (REP), program manager for the second REP, guest lecturer at Macquarie University and teacher of editing at UTS.
