Dr Banihashemi’s contributions have been recognized through several prestigious awards, including the University of Canberra’s 2019 Early Career Researcher Award in Science and Technology, the 2020 Academic Excellence Award, and the 2021 Research Excellence Award. These accolades signify his consistent excellence in research, teaching, and innovation. In recognition of his groundbreaking work, Dr. Banihashemi was awarded the Australian Institute of Building's 2024 Research, Development, and Technology Excellence Award for his leadership in the Digital and Advanced Construction Hub.

Dr Banihashemi is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Green Technologies and Sustainability, and serves on the editorial boards of several prominent academic journals, including Discover in Civil Engineering, PLOS One, and Science Progress, where he contributes to advancing knowledge in sustainable and digital construction.
