Sarah is a senior lecturer in the School of Communication in the Faculty of Design and Society and teaches creative writing and communication interdisciplinary elective subjects.

Sarah's scholarly work is focused on social class in popular culture and literature, particularly the representation of working-class life. She has published on working-class representation in global cinema, literature, and popular music such as UK grime, dubstep, hardcore punk and Australian hip hop.

Sarah is also a poet and her poetry (which focuses on working-class experience) has been published widely in Australian literary journals and she has performed her poetry in a variety of venues across Australia as well as in the US and UK.

Sarah is the co-founding editor of the Journal of Working-Class Studies (with Dr. Liz Giuffre) and a regular contributor to the Working-Class Perspectives blog.
