BIO
Dr. Sepehrirahnama is specialised in theoretical and experimental aspects of Physical Acoustics, including wave manipulation, scattering, absorption and transmission.
His work on acoustic trapping in Helmholtz resonator led to discovery of asymmetry effects on acoustic radiation forces, which was published on highly prestigeous APS Physical Review Letters.
He has worked on design, computational modelling, and experimenting circular acoustic black holes, which is a vibro-acoustic phenomenon, to mitigate and control different acoustic waves in solids. His work on Acoustic Black Hole involved processing of weak acoustic and vibration signals with low Signal-to-Noise ratio using advanced comparative time-series signal processing methods.
He led the first part of the industry-collaboration research project on modelling and mitigation of noise in Tunnels using advanced computational models vs geometrical acoustic models.
He was the indursty collaborator on the second half of the project about noise mitigation in Tunnels, focusing on sensor placement strategy, acoustic signal processing and calibrating the computational model for validation assessment. The experiment design for Tunnels was one of its kind to map Sound with async excitations.
He received his PhD in 2015 from the National University of Singapore, School of Mechanical Engineering (ranked #1 in Asia and top #20 universities according to QS), on his research about advanced ultrasound phenomenon, i.e., acoustic radiation force phenomenon due to wave manipulation.
His postdoctoral experience includes three years of collaborating with American Bureau of Shipping on vibro-acoustic emissions from Ultra-large containerships to marine environment, noise mitigation in Tunnels, and a Linkage project related to his research on Acoustic Black Holes.
Being inspired by his engagement with Australian Acoustic Society, NSW division, he transitioned from Academia to Industry in 2024 to contribute to more practical acoustic design probelms with evident socio-economic impacts with his unique skillset in Acoustics.
He held an Industry-Fellow position in the past two years to collaborate with Dr. Mahmoud Karimi as one of the leading Vibro-Acoustic experts in Australia and Dr. Paul Williams, who is an expert in Computational Acoustics and duct noise mitigation.
