As Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President (Education and Students) Professor Shirley Alexander was responsible for UTS's key priorities in teaching and learning, the student experience, and the use of data analytics in all aspects of the university's work. She is now retired. 

Her major responsibilities included:

enhancing the quality of UTS's teaching, creating an environment of innovation and excellence in teaching and learning to ensure that UTS is recognised internationally as a leading Australian university (in collaboration with faculties, the Institute for Interactive Media and Learning, and the University Library)
maintaining an effective, service-oriented and sustainable learning environment and infrastructure for all students
increasing opportunities for student and staff learning, social, cultural and intellectual interaction, by promoting the development of a strong student focus and culture across the university (in collaboration with Student Services)
leading the 'data intensive university' project to support the decision-making of all stakeholders, in teaching, research and the corporate environment.

Shirley Alexander is Professor of Learning Technologies and has worked at UTS for the past 20 years, having previously held the positions of director of the Institute for Interactive Media and Learning, and dean of the Faculty of Education
