TEACHING AND SUPERVISION

Professor Bakoss has taught undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education courses in the areas of Structural Mechanics, Engineering Computations, Structural Analysis and Design. He led the School of Civil Engineering as Head of School from 1988 to 1993. Under his stewardship the School adapted successfully to a period of rapid expansion and transition which resulted in major changes of the curricula to reflect the changes in the practise of civil engineering and the changing demands on graduates. During his tenure the School expanded the range of its postgraduate courses to meet the needs of the Local Government Industry, and introduced a combined Civil and Environmental Engineering Degree program the first of its kind in NSW, which was widely considered to be a prototype for such programs in Australia.

He has acted as External Examiner of PhD dissertations for the University of NSW, University of Adelaide, University of Sydney, James Cook University and the University of Sains Malaysia.

He presented an Invited Lecture at the International Congress on Engineering Education Vienna, in July 1996.
