Dr Tim Foster is an Associate Professor at the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures. His work addresses global water and sanitation challenges at the intersection of engineering, global health, and international development.

With over 15 years of experience across Africa, Asia, and the Pacific, Tim’s expertise spans a range of water and sanitation issues, including public health, water quality, finance and economics, and governance. He has authored over 60 peer-reviewed articles in leading water management, environmental science, and public health journals.

Tim’s work is grounded in close collaboration with governments, multilateral agencies, and civil society organisations to enable research uptake and impact. His projects have been supported by DFAT, UNICEF, World Bank, USAID, the UK FCDO, and the World Health Organization.

Before joining the UTS Institute for Sustainable Futures, Tim was Head of Programmes for an Indigenous Health NGO, served as Technical Advisor for the South Sudan Guinea Worm Eradication Programme with the Carter Center, led a WASH programme in Uganda with Engineers Without Borders, and worked as a management consultant with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

Tim holds a doctorate from Oxford University, an MSc in Water Science, Policy and Management (with Distinction) from Oxford University, a Bachelor of Civil Engineering (with Honours) from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) from the University of Melbourne.
